What to do when you feel so busy you can't think straight...

"It is not enough to be busy, so are the ants. The question is: What are we busy about?"
- Henry David Thoreau

Spring is incredibly busy. Regardless of what I'm doing or where I'm going in life, Spring keeps me on my toes. Seasons have their purpose and Spring is busy for all of us. We are getting ready for school to be out, and the days are starting to become longer. I find that I'm able to work longer hours and no matter how hard I try I keep taking on new projects.

This Spring I'm trying something different. Rather than working harder and longer, I'm trying to work smarter and with more intention. I'm setting aside more time to think and plan, rather than just hurrying up to get it done. My time is precious and if I'm going to try to get everything done, I better have a plan.

Before I begin breaking down my goals, I'm usually overwhelmed because I can't imagine I will be able to get everything done. However, time after time this process helps break the overwhelm down into digestible chunks. I can only do what is planned and scheduled, everything else must wait until I'm able to get to it.

First, I create an excel spreadsheet with all my current projects and things that I want to track.

Second, I break each of my projects down into tasks. Each task is given a due date and estimated time it would take to complete.

Third, I go to my calendar and schedule when I'm going to complete each of these tasks.

It is as simple as that. The more consistent I am with preparing and planning the more I can get done in a week. I try to be flexible when the plan goes awry and adjust as needed. Overall, it has been a game changer.

If you would like to learn more about how to organize your schedule. You can check out my 8:8:8 plan. You only have 24 hours in a day. How to use them to build a more holistic lifestyle that sets you up for success at work, home, and well-being. Download the 8:8:8 plan here.
